Acetylene
Applications :
Acetylene is traditional fuel gas used for oxy-fuel cutting, welding, brazing, heating and related technologies. Industrial application of the acetylene is going to the roots of the massive steel use in 19th century. Efficient use of the acetylene is limited today for oxy-fuel cutting, heating processes, brazing and welding. Acetylene is the most powerfull fuel gas used in these technologies. Its high flame temperature, power created in primary flame and speed of burning enable to use it for heavy-duty application where high amount of the heat is needed with high energy focus (e.g. flame straightening, oxy-fuel cutting etc).
Thanks to low stability of the molecule at high pressure, acetylene has been stored in special steel cylinders filled by poreous mass and acetone. Handling with acetylene requires trained persona nd proper equipment as e.g. Flashback arrestors.
